Sam Smith has announced the To Be Free: San Francisco eight-night theater residency, taking place at the Castro Theatre in San Francisco. The run of intimate shows will kicking off February 10th, officially ringing in the venue’s reopening following two years of renovations.

Sam shares: “I LOVE San Francisco and The Castro especially has been so central to the Queer community here over the years. These shows will also celebrate the official reopening, so it’s truly an honour to become part of this iconic venue’s history.” Tickets go on sale on Tuesday, October 7th at 10 am local time; head HERE for details.

To mark the San Francisco residency announcement, Smith has shared their cover of the 1971 Bill Withers classic “Ain’t No Sunshine” set to a video filmed at the theater and surrounding Castro District. Take a look: HERE.

Due to popular demand, Smith also extended the upcoming To Be Free: New York City residency stretching into November and December at Warsaw, a small venue in Brooklyn, New York which holds about 1,000 people. Tickets to the residency can be found at Sam’s website.

Smith released their new single, “To Be Free,” along with a video filmed at Warsaw. In the song’s press release, Smith says, “I’ve never had a recording experience like I did making this song. It’s one vocal and guitar take from start to finish – one live performance of me and my friend Simon Aldred in a pure state of music and expression. I wrote it five years ago while writing my last album Gloria and then parked it because I knew it was not a song for that album. It was created during a time in my life where I became free within myself.” See the video for ‘To Be Free’ – HERE.
