Second Street between Franklin and Greenwood avenues will open to two-way traffic on Wednesday, June 11, and the City is planning a project completion celebration at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday, June 24 at the Dogwood at the Pine Shed, 821 NE Second Street in Bend.

The community is invited to join the City of Bend and the Bend Urban Renewal Agency in celebrating the completion of the Second Street (Franklin to Greenwood) project, a Core Area Tax Increment Financing project that signals an urban renewal milestone. Last year, the Bend Urban Renewal Agency invested $100,000 into area small businesses with plans to invest up to $200,000 in the next two years.  Redeveloping and invigorating the Core Area will help the City achieve its vision of being a place where people can live, work, and play.

The family-friendly celebration kicks off at 4:15 p.m. with remarks from elected leaders, an opportunity to learn more about the projects and visitors are encouraged to stay and enjoy the food trucks and support area businesses.

“The City’s investments in this area will incentivize and catalyze private development and get us closer to our vision for a vibrant, mixed-use area where you can live, work and play,” said Mayor Pro-Tem Megan Perkins. “Completing our Second Street project helps unlock this area’s potential.”

“The City worked with taxing districts, property owners, area residents, local businesses, and other stakeholders to create a common vision and a tax increment financing plan,” said BURA Chair and City Councilor Mike Riley. “It is exciting to see our first major investment in the Core area come to life.”

The Second Street project includes: wider, complete sidewalks, accessibility improvements to make the intersections safer, new, on-street parking, improved lighting and landscaping, stormwater improvements, and underground, the project included a new water main line.
