Freedom for Great Apes (FGA) is delighted to extend a warm invitation to all and chimpanzee enthusiasts for a unique opportunity to visit the sanctuary at our first-ever Public Open House on Sunday, May 19th. The event will take place at the serene Tumalo sanctuary, nestled in the picturesque countryside just outside of Bend, from 10am to 12pm.
As members of the community, attendees are encouraged to join this celebration of FGA’s vital work and see firsthand the remarkable impact of our donors’ support. The Open House promises an enriching day of mingling with staff, volunteers, and fellow supporters, while gaining insights into the sanctuary’s mission and the exceptional care provided to its residents.
Guests will have the chance to explore the sanctuary grounds, designed to provide a safe and stimulating environment for the chimpanzees, and engage with knowledgeable staff to learn more about FGA’s ongoing efforts.
Photography is welcomed throughout the event to capture memorable moments, with a reminder to share FGA-approved social media posts from FGA official accounts. We would greatly appreciate all guests’ understanding as this is an essential step in maintaining FGA’s role as a leading voice and advocate for the welfare of this captive chimpanzee family.
The sanctuary’s store, Topo’s Emporium, will also be open for browsing, offering an opportunity to discover more about upcoming events and interact with FGA representatives.

Get a ticket while they last! A suggested donation of $20 per adult guest is appreciated, with complimentary admission for children under ten years old. Herbie, CJ, Jackson, and Emma were all rescued from the pet and entertainment industries. Since 2019, Freedom for Great Apes has been providing a safe haven dedicated to their physical, social, behavioral, and psychological well-being.
