forest-service-logo128419

The Zimmerman Rock Pit will be temporarily closed for public safety for up to a month beginning April 8. The rock pit is located on the Sisters Ranger District of the Deschutes National Forest off Highway 20 at mile marker 96.6.

The Oregon Department of Transportation will be conducting rock crushing operations at the Zimmerman Rock Pit for up to a month. Public access to the pit will be reopened once these operations are complete.

There are several alternative gravel pits that will be open for recreational shooting while the Zimmerman pit is closed including the Cache Cinder Pit, Fourmile Cinder Pit, Garrison Pit, Melvin Pit, Pole Creek Pit, and Schilling Pit. Access to some of these pits may be limited depending on snow levels and road conditions. The Forest Service doesn’t maintain roads for winter weather and road conditions may not be favorable as temperatures warm and snow continues to melt.

For more information, please contact the Sisters Ranger District at (541) 549-7700.
