Redmond Proficiency Academy’s (RPA) Thespian Troupe #7715 recently competed in the annual Oregon Thespians Southern Regional Acting Competition, where they won 35 medals for excellence in numerous acting categories, the greatest number for any school in the region. The annual competition was hosted by North Salem High School, where the event occurred on Saturday, Feb. 3.

“Each year, I am taken aback by our department’s performance at Regionals,” said RPA Theatre Director Kate Torcom. “While their track record is impressive, it’s essential to recognize that their success is never guaranteed. It’s a new group of students each year, highlighting that this recognition is consistently earned, not inherited. It brings me immense joy to witness – showcasing the unwavering commitment of our RPA students to excellence and growth in educational theater.”

RPA students medaled in the following categories, qualifying them for the State Acting Showcase Competition at the Oregon Thespians State Festival in April:

“Winning is never the goal of regionals, but as a senior, knowing that all your hard work paid off, feels amazing,” said senior Ruby Boland. “I am so excited to continue to learn and grow as an artist.”

RPA was the most decorated troupe in the Oregon Southern Region for the ninth year in a row, continuing to build on an already well-established reputation as a strong competitor in the Southern Region and throughout the state.
