A 39-year-old Portland man was arrested on attempted murder and weapons charges. According to a news release from Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office – On October 16, 2023, detectives received information from Portland Police Bureau detectives about a City of Portland resident planning a violent attack during an event in the Deschutes County area.
DCSO detectives worked with PPB detectives throughout the week investigating the suspect. On October 19, 2023 DCSO detectives learned the suspect had left Portland and was currently in Deschutes County. DCSO detectives and patrol deputies located him and his vehicle and arrested him without incident. Detectives later served a search warrant on his vehicle, locating evidence of the planned attack.
The suspect was booked in the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Jail on the following charges: Attempted Murder, Attempted Assault I, Attempted Assault II, and Unlawful Use of a Weapon
The Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Portland Police Bureau for sharing this information and likely preventing a major incident in Deschutes County. Detectives have determined there is no continued threat as the suspect was acting alone.
DCSO detectives are continuing to work on this investigation along with PPB detectives. Any further information will be released by the Deschutes County District Attorney’s Office.
