The 15th annual Redmond Kiwanis R’Oktoberfest celebration will be rock’n Downtown Redmond on Saturday, September 23, at Wild Ride Brewing on Fifth Street from noon to 10 p.m. It’s a family friendly event. The Kiwanis version is heavier on the rock and local fare and only slightly inspired by the cuisine and beverages compared to the original European style of Oktoberfest, hence the name R’Oktoberfest! Admission is free.

More than 25 craft beers and ciders will be on tap. Proceeds will go to several youth projects including Energy Youth Basketball Club. EYBC personnel will coordinate the children’s activities including bouncy houses, hoop shooting, cornhole, an obstacle course and face painting.

Live music will be provided by Derek Michael Marc Band from noon to 2 p.m., the Kristi Kinsey Band from 4 to 6 p.m. and Sleepless Truckers from 7 to 10 p.m. Other entertainment includes a grain toss and stein hoisting for adults.

The silent auction will go on-line again this year to support Kiwanis youth projects in the Redmond community including; scholarships, Jericho Backpacks Camp Sunrise, and the playground at the new recreation center. Energy Youth Basketball Club is a non-profit organization designed to provide all 1st through 8th grade girls and boys in the greater Redmond community with an opportunity to develop solid basketball skills and to teach character-based life skills through sports.

EYBC is a completely volunteer-based organization made up of invested community members who have extensive backgrounds in basketball and youth athletics. The leagues, teams and development opportunities will be professional, positive and designed to elevate each child’s joy of the game and skills. Learn more and register your child for the upcoming season at www.energyhoopclub.com.

The traditional Kiwanis auction began in the 1970s as a fundraiser for the construction of the Cascade Swim Center and more recently the Sam Johnson Park/Hope Park update. It emerged as an Oktoberfest auction in 2008.
