Man Arrested After Dog Attacks Worker

A 60-year-old Bend man was arrested after directing his dog to attack a city contract worker at NE Forum Drive and NE Watt Way in Bend. According to Bend Police, at approximately 10:21 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 15, City of Bend staff and contract workers were conducting regular enforcement of the city’s camping code on NE Forum Drive in Bend.

An occupant of a trailer in the camp was not subject to removal from the area but became upset that crews were removing garbage at the camp. Witnesses reported that he retrieved his pit bull and directed the dog to attack a 21-year-old worker.

The worker sustained a minor dog bite to his hand.

Officers responded and investigated the incident, then arrested the suspect on charges of menacing, coercion and second-degree attempted assault. He was also cited for having a dog at large, animal nuisance and not having a license for the animal.

He was transported to the Deschutes County Jail, and his dog was transported to the Humane Society of Central Oregon.
