A Bend man was finally taken into custody after menacing several people with weapons. According to Bend Police, at approximately 9:17 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 7, Bend Police responded to a report of a man who had brandished a shotgun and a knife at a woman in the 300 block of NE Dekalb Street after she approached him about a dog wandering in the road.

While officers were en route to the scene, the man hit another person’s truck with a metal object and was reportedly chasing someone in the street. He also reportedly threatened additional people at the scene.

As officers arrived, the suspect got back in his blue 2003 Toyota Camry and ignored police commands. He eventually climbed onto the hood of his car, and then the roof of his car, where he stood talking on his phone. The suspect had a 10-inch knife on his waist and a 3-inch knife holstered on his ankle. He was also wearing a harness and a kilt with multiple objects hanging from it.

The suspect continued to ignore officers’ commands, despite being told he was under arrest. Ultimately an officer fired two 40-mm less lethal foam rounds into his torso, and another officer twice deployed a Taser before he was able to be taken into custody.

He was transported first to St. Charles Bend for evaluation and then to the Deschutes County Jail where he was lodged on the above charges.
