On June 24, 2023, at approximately 12:00 pm, the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to Ace Hardware, located at 51615 Huntington Road in La Pine, regarding a motor vehicle crash. Initial reports advised a vehicle had driven into the building and one of the staff was pinned inside the store.
During the course of the investigation, it was determined that the driver had driven into the parking lot of Ace Hardware and inadvertently pressed the gas pedal as opposed to the brake pedal causing her 2016 Jeep Cherokee to crash into the building.
Customers and employees were injured as a result of the vehicle crashing into the building; however, the injuries were non-life threatening.
