Sheriff’s Deputy OK After Dragged By Car

A Deschutes County Sheriff’s deputy is OK after being dragged by a vehicle during a traffic stop. According to DCSO:

On April 8, 2023, at approximately 3:15 pm, deputies were dispatched to a report of a restraining order violation at the Cline Falls Mobile Park in the 3600 block of Highway 126. The reporting party/victim contacted Deschutes County 911 Dispatch to report the suspect was at her residence and was actively ramming her parked vehicle, causing extensive damage to the unoccupied vehicle.

The suspect had just been served with a restraining order and removed from the residence a few hours earlier, prohibiting him from contacting the victim or being at the residence. The female victim also reported he was intoxicated.

The victim reported the man had driven away from the scene before deputies arrived. The first responding deputy however was able to locate the suspect in a gravel road area near the 3600-block of Cline Falls Highway. While attempting to take the suspect into custody,  the deputy was dragged a short distance by the suspect’s vehicle. Shortly after the suspect fled the scene, a second responding deputy used mobile spike strips to stop him during which he again resisted arrest. The suspect was then taken into custody after a short struggle while deputies effected the arrest.

The first responding deputy was not injured as a result of being dragged by the suspect’s vehicle and returned to patrol duties immediately afterward.
