Bend Fire Department was called out to a reported motorhome fire along Stevens Rd, just east of 27th St in Bend early Wednesday. Crews found the motorhome completely involved in fire when they arrived. Crews stopped the fire quickly and prevented it from spreading to nearby power poles and brush. No one was found around the motorhome at the time. The fire was called in by several passerby’s on their way to work.

During the investigation biological remains were found in the motorhome. Due to the extent of damage, darkness and location of the body, a dead investigation was commenced, lead by Bend Police, to determine who or what was inside. After the occupant of the motorhome returned and the sun came up, it was determined the remains were in fact that of the occupants large dog who unfortunately perished in the fire.

The fire appears to have started from a propane fired heater left unattended in the camper while the occupant was away. Its unclear if the heater malfunctioned or if some sort of combustible ignited on or near the heater. The motorhome and contents are a complete loss, totaling approximately $4,000.
