Redmond Police seized drugs and firearms after arresting a 36-year-old Bend man for theft. The suspect is accused of stealing a $240 pellet rifle from a business in Redmond on January 21st. Video surveillance from the business helped officers positively identify the suspect.

According to an RPD news release, on February 2, 2023, at approximately 5:30 a.m., a person entered an unlocked vehicle in the 3700 block of SW Xero Ave. and stole approximately $1,200 worth of tools. On February 14, 2023, tools from this theft were recovered at a Bend pawn shop. Video surveillance from the business helped officers positively identify the suspect as being the same person who stole the pellet rifle.

After recovering the stolen property, and while heading back to Redmond, a Redmond Police Department (RPD) detective located the suspect in a car, and with assistance from the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) conducted a traffic stop near the 64000 block of N Hwy 97, in Bend. The suspect was arrested, and a Bend Police Department (BPD) Detective, with their narcotics K9, checked the vehicle for drugs. The K9 alerted to the presence of an odor of narcotics coming from the vehicle.

The RPD detective applied for and was granted a search warrant for the vehicle. During the execution of the search warrant approximately 20 grams of Methamphetamine and 2 firearms were located. The suspect was jailed for the following crimes: Theft II, Theft I, Unlawful Entry into a Motor Vehicle, Criminal Trespass II, Felony Possession of Methamphetamine, Felon in Possession of a Firearm x 2, and Theft I by Receiving.

RPD would like to thank the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office and the Bend Police Department for their assistance with this investigation.  We would also like to thank the victims for providing detailed lists of stolen items, including serial numbers, and video surveillance. This information was valuable in identifying the suspect and law enforcement’s ability to recover stolen property.
