The Wilson Avenue Improvements Project is making significant progress. However, the full closure of SE Wilson Avenue between SE Centennial Street and SE 9th Street remains closed to allow for critical railroad warning signal and gate arms installation. Burlington Northern Santa-Fe (BNSF) Railway has experienced a delay in making it to the project to make these critical upgrades to the warning signals and gate arms.
The closure is currently in effect, and a designated detour route has been established for all travelers. This closure includes both the roadway and sidewalks.
The project remains on schedule, and the closure is estimated to be in place through early July.
The City of Bend is issuing an urgent safety reminder for all community members:
Residents, pedestrians, cyclists and drivers are instructed to stay out of the closure area and follow all posted detours. Entering the work zone poses a significant safety risk, as the railroad crossing warning systems in this area, including signals and gate arms, are out of service. The crossing is not safe for any type of entry.
The City will provide updated dates as soon as BNSF Railway supplies the finalized construction schedule.
“We understand that closures like this can be disruptive,” said City Engineer, Ryan Oster. “However, the safety of our community is our top priority. With the railroad warning systems offline, it is absolutely essential that everyone respects the closure and avoids the area.”
