The nonprofit organization Central Oregon Trail Alliance (COTA) hired Kira Sandiford as its first-ever Development Director. According to a COTA news release, this strategic addition to the team underscores the organizations’s commitment to developing, protecting, and enhancing the Central Oregon mountain bike experience through trail stewardship, advocacy, collaboration, and education.
Originally from Los Angeles, Sandiford holds a bachelor’s degree from Kalamazoo College and is currently pursuing a Master of Science in digital media at USC Annenberg. She studied abroad in Thailand, solo hiked the Pacific Crest Trail, and built her own tiny house on wheels. Before joining COTA, she spent 8 years with REI, in roles spanning retail sales, outdoor programs, outreach, and most recently as the Operations Manager for the Bend store. After relocating to Oregon in 2018, she found her passion for mountain biking.
“My favorite style of riding is gravity driven; but I can’t resist some cross-country miles,” says Sandiford. “My current favorite trail is the Royal Flush/ Afternoon Delight combo, absolute gems showcasing the beauty of our trails.”
“As your new Development Director, I’m here to engage with members of the mountain bike community, share my passion for COTA and our trails, and work hard to ensure the continued success of our organization,” she expressed. “I’ll be spearheading strategic fundraising plans, cultivating relationships with major donors, and developing partnerships with local businesses. I plan to both boost COTA memberships, and launch fundraising campaigns that propel us forward.”
Sandiford started January 8, 2024 and can be reached at kira.sandiford@cotamtb.com. COTA invites the community to join in welcoming Kira to her new role as Development Director, and looks forward to the exciting opportunities and accomplishments that will unfold under her leadership.
