Bend Fire Department responded to a reported kitchen fire Sunday evening. Crews were dispatched to Cree Circle in Deschutes River Woods around 5:30pm when the occupant called 911 that his house was on fire. The occupant and his dogs evacuated safely and were not harmed. Fire crews arrived and found the fire was starting to spread to the roof and attic. The fire was quickly knocked down with water from the outside. Crews then worked through the kitchen ceiling to ensure the fire was completely extinguished and secured before leaving the scene.

The owner stated he had been cooking dinner and accidentally left the stove on with the frying pan on the burner. The remaining oil caught fire and spread up through the vent to the attic and roof. The fire damage is estimated at $15,000. Red Cross was contacted to assist the occupant after the fire.
