A 57-year-old Bend woman was rescued by Search & Rescue volunteers Saturday after injuring her ankle near the Horse Ridge Trailhead. Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue responded to the area of the hiker, approximately one and half miles from the trailhead. The injury to her ankle prevented her from walking out to the trailhead under her own power.

Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue were requested to assist by the City of Bend Fire/Rescue, who eventually evaluated and treated the hiker’s injuries once back at the trailhead.

A total of nine Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue volunteers responded to the area with a wheeled litter to rescue the patient. Search and Rescue volunteers were activated at 4:00 pm, reached the trailhead at 4:30 pm, and reached the patient by 5:05 pm. She was transferred to medical personnel for treatment at the trailhead at 6:25 pm.

Bend Fire and Rescue transported her to St. Charles Bend for further treatment.
