After a horrific snowboarding accident in 2009, Erik Himbert, local music teacher and Oregon resident, thought he would never walk again. Even with his injury, Erik refused to let that limit him and his lifestyle – he continued to pursue life to its fullest, whether it was restoring old cars on his YouTube channel or inventing a contest-winning standing desk for others .
Erik never gave up and today he will graduate from his physical therapy regimen at Destination Rehab, taking home his very own ReWalk exoskeleton – a device allowing him to stand up and walk on his own after nearly 14 years in a wheelchair. Erik is the first Oregon resident to receive a ReWalk exoskeleton – but he hopes he’s not the last, and aims to inspire other Oregon residents with a spinal cord injury to pursue whatever options they have available.
